Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist and member of the Nazi Party, arrives in occupied Krakow looking to profit from cheap Jewish labour. As he witnesses the systematic brutality of the Holocaust firsthand, something shifts in him. He begins using his factory as a front to shelter over a thousand Jewish workers from the death camps, spending his entire fortune bribing officials to keep his workers alive. Shot almost entirely in black and white, Spielberg’s film is a devastating, unflinching look at one of history’s darkest chapters and one man’s choice to act when the cost of doing nothing became unbearable.
